About FACTS

There is no blood, urine or breathalyzer test which can determine whether a person is impaired by fatigue. As a result fatigue tends to be under-reported and under-investigated, and the costs of fatigue are too often unknown and/or ignored.

However experts in human fatigue can assess the probability that an incident or accident was caused by fatigue using well established peer reviewed science.

FACTS captures the expertise of leading experts in fatigue/sleep and circadian physiology and transportation and industry incident investigation to provide you an expert online system.

FACTS is a software program which estimates the probability of whether a person was or was not impaired by fatigue at the time of an accident or incident [1]. If there were several people involved, separately entering the data for each person will help you determine which individual(s), if any, were, or were not, fatigued impaired at the time of the accident.

Because fatigue impairment is a complex interaction of multiple causal factors, FACTS combines the available data related to each factor to provide an overall fatigue impairment probability. The more answers you provide, and the more accurate these answers are will determine the degree of reliability of the calculated overall probability of fatigue impairment.

FACTS is not designed to be used, nor is permitted to be used at any time or in any way, in the litigation of accidents and incidents where fatigue impairment is alleged by a party to the action (See Conditions of Use). CIRCADIAN does not represent or warrant that the calculated overall probability of fatigue impairment derived by FACTS rises to the level of a reasonable degree of scientific or medical certainty required by a court of law, since it is not designed to consider all the relevant evidence that may be available in a litigated case.  FACTS is specifically designed for statistical assessments of fatigue impairment in a population of people or employees involved in incidents, accidents or other events.  As such it can serve as a useful tool in data-driven Fatigue Risk Management Systems.
